Description
Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) is an analytical technique that combines gas chromatography and mass spectrometry to identify and quantify organic compounds in a mixture.
Gas chromatography (GC) separates compounds based on volatility and their interaction with the stationary phase.
Mass spectrometry (MS) then identifies and measures each separated compound by its mass-to-charge ratio after ionization.
GC–MS is widely used in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, food and beverages, flavor and fragrance analysis, and environmental testing.
